LOTR Fan Club Official Movie Magazine Caption Contest
Contest Rules

Description of Contest
a. A Contest is an
organized competition for a prize that requires Contestants to demonstrate
their individual skills and where the winner is chosen by one or more judges.
In this Contest, Contestants will compete against each other to create the best
caption for The Lord of the Rings image
published in Issue 6 of the Lord of the Rings
Fan Club Official Movie Magazine. The creators of the winning entries will win
prizes as set forth in the Prizes section. The number of qualified entries
received affects the odds of winning

How to enter
a. No purchase necessary.
b. One entry per person unless otherwise
specifically stated in the description of the contest. Each entry submitted
must contain the full name, street address, phone number and a valid e-mail
address of the Contestant.
c. Entries should be mailed to "Lord
of the Rings Fan Club Official Movie Magazine", P.O. Box 56,
Norfolk, VA 23501-0056, ATTN: Caption Contest. Entries will also be accepted
electronically by sending an e-mail to
editor@lotrfanclub.com with "Caption Contest" in the subject line. Each
e-mail entry must also include the full name, street address, phone number and
a valid e-mail address of the Contestant.
d. Entries must be received no later than
11:59 pm E.S.T. on February 15, 2003. Entries received after this date,
regardless of when it is postmarked or time stamped, will not be accepted.
e. Sponsor reserves the right, in its
sole and exclusive opinion, to disqualify any entries deemed to be obscene or
offensive.

Eligibility
a. This Contest is open to anyone who is
not otherwise prohibited from entering unless specifically stated otherwise in
the Contest Description.
b. Employees of Sponsor, distributors,
affiliates, subsidiaries, retailers, advertising and promotion agencies and the
immediate families of each are not eligible.
c. Offer void where prohibited, taxed or
otherwise restricted under national, federal, provincial, state and local laws,
rules or regulations. Contestants that are residents of a State/Providence that
prohibits unregistered contests are not eligible. Sponsor expressly disclaims
any responsibility or liability for any Contestant that enters when it is
illegal for them to do so.

Prizes/Approximate Retail Value
a. Five prizes donated by United Cutlery
will be awarded. One Grand Prize with a value of approximately $225.00
will be awarded. Four second-place prizes, each valuing approximately
$45.00, will be awarded. The total value of all prizes awarded is
approximately $405.00.
b. Winners agree that Sponsor has no
responsibility whatsoever in connection with, acceptance of, or use of prizes
awarded herein.
c. Winners are solely responsible for any
and all fees, including shipping fees, taxes and laws associated with winning
prizes according to their national, federal, provincial, state and local legal
system.

Awarding Prizes and Notifications
a. The staff of the
Lord of the Rings Fan Club Official Movie Magazine will select the
five (5) winning entries.
b. Winner(s) will be notified by e-mail,
phone, regular mail and/or overnight courier within 30 days from the date the
contest ends. If the winner is unreachable after 10 days (from the time Sponsor
attempts to give notice whenever that may be) an alternate winner will be
selected.
c. Winner(s) will be required to sign and
return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release, and where lawful, a
Publicity Release, within five (5) days of notification, failing which the
potential winner will be disqualified and another winner selected in the place
of the disqualified person. If an eligible minor is selected as a potential
winner, the prize will be awarded to such minor's parent or legal guardian, who
will be required to sign all documents and fulfill all required conditions as
set forth in these Official Rules. Anyone using fraudulent means to participate
and/or win the Contest will be disqualified.
d. Prizes will be distributed within 60
days from when the winner is successfully contacted and notified of their prize
provided that Sponsor receives the signed Affidavit. Prizes cannot be converted
to cash and are not transferable. However, Sponsor can substitute prizes
provide the substitution is of like value
e. The winner(s) list will be posted at
www.lotrfanclub.com. To receive the winners’ name by mail, send a
stamped, self-addressed envelope to Winner’s List Caption Contest, P.O. Box 56,
Norfolk, Virginia 23501-0056 no later than February 28, 2003.

Other Legal Stuff
a. Entries that result in the creation of
any intellectual property must be original work created by the Contestant and
must not infringe on any trademarked or copyrighted materials. By entering the
contest, Contestant represents and warrants that the entry does not infringe on
anyone’s rights.
b. Sponsor takes no responsibility for
lost, damaged, incomplete or inaccurate entries.
c. Items will not be returned and become
the sole and exclusive property of Sponsor. By entering the contest, Contestant
is assigning all his/her worldwide rights, title and interest in the submission
to Sponsor.
d. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel
or suspend the contest for causes beyond Sponsor’s control. Sponsor reserves
the right to change contest rules without prior notification.
e. Entering equals permission (except
where prohibited by law) for Sponsor, and its officers, directors, agents,
parent companies, subsidiaries and employees to use winner’s name, likeness,
biographical information, and contest responses for promotional purposes
without additional compensation. By participating, entrants agree to these
official rules and the decision of the judges, which shall be final.
f. In exchange for the right to
participate in the Contest, EACH CONTESTANT AGREES TO RELEASE AND INDEMNIFY THE
SPONSOR AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, AGENTS, PARENT COMPANIES, SUBSIDIARIES AND
EMPLOYEES FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS AND/OR CAUSES IF ACTION OF ANY
NATURE OR KIND WHATSOEVER, WHETHER PRESENTLY KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, FORESEEN OR
UNFORESEEN, THAT ARISE OUT OF THE CONTESTANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST.
The laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia but not the conflict of law rules
shall govern this contest.
g. The Sponsor of this Contest is
Decipher, Inc., whose address is 253 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23510.
Additional Rules for Internet
Contests

Contestants using the internet to submit their entries must submit an e-mail to
editor@lotrfanclub.com with "Caption Contest" in the subject line. Each
e-mail entry must also include the full name, street address, phone number and
a valid e-mail address of the Contestant.

Multiple entries by the same person using one or more e-mail accounts will
result in disqualification. No mechanically or electronically reproduced
entries will be accepted unless specifically stated otherwise.

Sponsors are not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone or
other transmission failures of any kind; lost or unavailable network
connections; or incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions whether
caused by Sponsor, user, equipment, programming, or human error which may occur
in the processing of submissions, which may limit a participant’s ability to
participate.

Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend a
promotion or contest should a virus, bug, computer or other problem beyond the
control of Sponsor corrupt the administration, security or proper execution of
any Internet promotion or contest. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may award
prizes to entries received by alternate means. All Internet participants agree
to be bound by these rules and the general rules appearing above.
